“Communicating Outside the Box”

Gift of Words provides therapy for individuals dealing with speech and language disorders, specifically in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency.

  • Articulation

Articulation refers to the physical process of producing speech sounds. It involves the movement and coordination of the lips, tongue, teeth, jaw, and palate to form the sounds that make up words. In other words, articulation is how we use our speech organs to produce the sounds we need to communicate effectively.

  • Language

Language refers to the system of symbols, words, or gestures that individuals use to communicate ideas, thoughts, feelings, and information. It encompasses both spoken and non-spoken forms of communication, such as written, signed, and body language.

  • Fluency

When speech does not flow smoothly or is disrupted by frequent disfluencies, it may indicate a fluency disorder, such as stuttering. People with fluency disorders may have difficulty maintaining a steady, continuous flow of speech.

  • Voice

A voice disorder occurs when voice quality, pitch and loudness differ or are inappropriate for age and sex of the child/ adult or cultural background.
